One of the top ingredients for your skin
Ingredient Spotlight: Rosehip Oil
Rosehip Oil is harvested from the red-orange seed-pods (“hips”) of rosebushes. Doesn’t that sound lovely? It can be pressed from several varieties of roses, but most often comes from the seeds of the Rosa rubiginosa and Rosa moschata found in the southern Andes. Rosehip Oil has been used for thousands of years by ancient cultures, such as Egyptian and Mayan and was often regarded as a “Fountain of Youth” oil.
Fun fact: Rosehips are also edible, they have a sweet, citrus-like flavour and may be eaten or used in tea.
Rosehip oil is one of the best oils for skin, a rival for both coconut oil and shea butter. It contains fatty acids, antioxidants and vitamins A, C and E, all of which give skin a glowing vitality. Because its fatty-acids help build collagen and skin elasticity, rosehip oil is an unparalleled anti-aging and scar-reducing product. It can be used for any or all of the following:
To decrease wrinkles
To sooth dry skin
To even out skin-tone
To brightening skin
To reduce scaring
Another benefit is that rosehip oil is considered a dry oil, meaning it absorbs quickly and doesn’t leave skin greasy. You can find Rosehip Oil in Barefoot Naturals products, including our Lavender and Rosehip soothing face serum.
